he doesn't immediately bring it up, but just giving kiruko a once-over. bruising's bad. but he does reach into his pocket and offer a bottle of painkillers. does that help? ]

What even happened to you guys? [ mostly, he's asking to see if somehow it coincides with vi suddenly dying today. ]

[ gives the bottle a thoughtful look... and then a brief, grateful smile. ]

Thanks, man. [ takes a couple and then gives the bottle back. ]

Honestly, I don't know how to describe it... We just fell into this freaky place with monsters and blood pools and green fire and... I dunno, weird crap. Like stuff you'd find in a video game or something.

[ the slightest amount of tension in his face relaxes. things are awful, but he does like that he can help a little. the bottle goes back into his pocket, but then there's a pause as he blinks slowly. ]

Monsters. [ incredulous. all of this sounds so fake and so weird. ] Was it even anywhere in the city?

[ they really did just poof out of nowhere and nobody knew... ]

Nowhere that I've seen. I don't think it's a place we can reach by foot or train... and, honestly, it just didn't look like anything I've seen in this city at all.

[ looking thoughtful... trying to think of any relevant details. ]

... There was someone, or something, trying to stop us from escaping.

[ interesting. give him a second to lean against a nearby wall, folding his arms over his chest. ]

Do you remember the first few days we were here? How the trains didn't stop at all. We were stuck. [ coincidence? ]

Huh? Yeah... Guess whoever set this up has a pretty handy way of controlling where we can and can't go.

So the new question is... why? Why do they need to keep us here? [ also who tf invited them? ] I'm not sure how I feel about the idea of four of you going somewhere else you weren't meant to escape. Especially combined with last night's lockdown, too.

... Lockdown?

[ a slow blink. ]

Yeah. Has anybody told you about getting stuck late last night? Right before everybody fell asleep.

shakes head. ]

[ oh. oops. he at least looks briefly sheepish for the lead-in, but this is all a part of the trial process. ]

Where were you last night? The hotel?

Yeah. I was hanging around on the ground floor, and didn't feel like going upstairs, so I just fell asleep on one of the couches.

Where were you?

I left the library but I got turned around and ended up in a spa. By the time I got up to leave, the doors had locked. I wasn't the only one either. Some people were stuck outside, too.

[kirubeam]

You were locked in the spa? Who else was there?

[unapollogetic]

[ the pause is him trying to remember people's names, frankly. ]

Strohl, Hulkenberg, that other guy they seem to know, the weird guy who was talking about a hole in his chest when we first got here, the guy from Cray, Mr. Wright, me... and Vi.

[ i genuinely do not know if he ever would have gotten glodell, lucifel and mordalion's names but sure, okay. ]

Must be a good spa, if it's that popular...

I think everyone else was actually using it. [ so yeah, maybe? ] But it was obvious no one expected the doors to lock behind us.

[ it's debatable if anybody actually noticed right away, because he knows he checked and then failed to say anything about it. sometimes you're preoccupied. ]

Probably would've freaked me out if I was there...

What happened after the doors locked?

Nothing unusual for a while. People were in the hot tubs or just hanging out, but about an hour later everyone fell asleep at the same time. Or at least I think that's right. I don't remember falling asleep, but I remember waking up this morning.

At the same time...?

... Isn't it kind of bad to fall asleep in a hot tub!?

I don't think anyone was actually in a hot tub when we fell asleep? [ he. hm. actually he doesn't know. ] Nobody drowned, so I'm gonna guess we were fine.

Right... phew. We've got enough ways to die to worry about as-is.

Two people found Vi and what was left of Fushiguro this morning. A plausible weapon was left nearby, so... we can't rule this one as an accident.
